[ You find yourself in a circular room what looks to be four thrones on a raised oval platform. Light floods the room from a circular stained glass skylight high above, scattering colors in a ring around the platform, leaving the platform itself lit with bare sunlight. On each of the four thrones neatly sits a wooden mannequin with varying heights, all of whom seem to have an indent running around the top of their head. Behind the thrones is a set of elegant glass doors trimmed in wood framing that has been carved into branches. Above them is a large banner depicting a rampant red lion. ]
[ All around and behind you hang six large tapestries: A tree with wide spreading branches and plain roots. An ominous castle with tall, thin spires in the midst of snow. A wide open field with tiny figures frozen in strange poses. A simple room with a desk, a cobweb growing in a ceiling corner. A large house, surrounded by forest, and in the distance is a dark cityscape. A sprawling cliffside castle lit by rays of sunlight and an ocean to one side. ]
[ The room itself feels still with anticipation, with a comfortable air. It's just warm enough to be livable. It is also quiet, as if its owner has only just stepped out of the room. ]
[ There is now an impossibly tall woman blasting spell after spell, trying to break through the floor of the raised platform! Better hope she doesn't notice you. ]
[ Where the thrones and the mannequins are, there is now a hole taking up where the third and fourth thrones were! Their mannequins are also missing. ]
[ Ice is crawling slowly across the whole chamber. ]
[ That whole raised platform and its thrones and mannequins are all gone. There is only singed and crisped gigantic hole. Leaping down into it leads to here. ]
[ Here, all sound has only the slightest echo. Silence reigns supreme. The evidence of a great battle lays strewn across the withered field, weapons and shields discarded at random. Blood is spilled here and there, where the fallen bodies of werewolves, witches, dwarves, and the like lay in cold repose. Beyond them, going away from you, snow creeps in.
To the left, opposite of them, are stone statues of centaurs, fauns, and various animals. All of them are frozen in fear, horror, or desperation. Some have non-stone weapons held in their hands. Others have them laying about. All of them seem as though they were frozen in mid-motion. Past them a field of green creeps in. ]
[ Two armies have arrived and are in the midst of battle! Their commanders are an older king armed with swords and a young woman in a simple dress, armor, and armed with a bow and arrows. It is an intense battle with no holds barred. ]
[ Every so often, the army from the green fields stumbles as a wave of raw emotion pours out from the young woman before they regroup and return blows. ]
[ You find yourself in another circular room. Light floods the room from a circular stained glass skylight high above, scattering colors in a ring around the platform, leaving the platform itself lit with bare sunlight. The raised platform before you holds four thrones, all empty. The third, however, has a sizeable pillow set down next to it. Behind the thrones is a set of elegant glass doors trimmed in wood framing that has been carved into branches. Above them is a large banner depicting a rampant red lion. ]
[ Much of the stone wall here is covered in weapons and shields on display. A sizeable chest sits in one corner. Only one tapestry hangs: A lone desk in a library, papers and open books spread out, with a roaring fireplace. ]
[ As you go, you can see a large sprawling castle that overtakes a great deal of the cliffside facing the ocean. The sun hangs overhead in a slightly cloudy day, but it's fairly warm. There are birds flying, and the murmur of activity, though you can't see where it's coming from. The sound of the ocean lapping at the rocks echoes pleasantly. A path has been marked out all the way to the castle doors by what seems to be hundreds of footsteps, paw prints, and hoofmarks. ]
[ You find yourself standing at a crossroads of sorts. The air feels as though it is crackling with energy, and the cloudy skies don't help one bit. ]
[ The road where you stand splits into three paths. The left seems to lead up to a large mansion, slightly obscured by trees, but surrounded by wide open space of greenery. The middle path goes much further, and in the distance you can make out tall buildings, all dark under a nighttime sky. To the right is a long wooden platform, exposed to the elements, with two simple benches on it. ]
[ Cap shades his eyes with one hand, squinting to look down the paths as best he can. Then ... he cautiously begins to make his way down the middle one. ]
[ In the middle of an open field stands a tree, tall and strong, with branches covered in thick, green bottle-shaped leaves and nails outstretched wide. Its roots, however, don't seem to reach very far from what you can see. The cool shade the canopy provides offers relief from the hot summer sun beating down on you, though. ]
[ The tree trunk itself has a door cut into it, with a keyhole and a handle. From the branches of the tree hang eighteen keys of different colors and forms; one is a swirl of light green and yellow, another is clear, but the rest are probably familiar to you. But if you stand still long enough, you may see shadows move in the branches and the leaves rustle. ]
[ The sun out here is partially blocked out by fluffy white clouds, but it's an otherwise decent spring day. A large but simple fountain sits out here, water burbling out of a pedestal container into the circular basin. The ground is somewhat paved with stone blocks, but has otherwise been left to grow wildflowers and the like. The edge of the courtyard is lined with a railing, beyond which is nothing but sky. ]
[ To the left the stone pavers turn into wooden steps leading up onto a long narrow platform running perpendicular to the steps. You can hear the faint whistle and chugging sound of something mechanical in the distance. To your right, beyond the railing of the courtyard, looks to be a floating piece of land about the size of a large pillow. Straight ahead, there seems to be a small ship tethered to the railing. ]
[ You find yourself in an icy cold room. The doors behind you don't seem to be able to keep out the winter breeze. In front of you is a raised platform with what remains of four thrones, only battered and broken. Jagged pieces of stone and dust lay around them. In front of the third one, an area has been cleared to make room for an ice pedestal. On top of it sits a tray with a platter of a small array of candy, dusted delicately with powdered sugar, and a silver goblet of something steaming warmly. ]
[ Some of the tapestries here have been torn to shreds, but four of them are still whole enough that their designs are visible despite the obvious damage to them: A starkly beautiful and pale woman from the waist up, hair loose and eyes intent, her hand extended forward. A shattered sword in the midst of broken furniture. A blood stained bier with a gleaming sword. A gallery of murals and ice. ]
[ The silence is thick here. It feels heavy and constant, making the sound of your own breathing awkward and flat. It feels as though sound should echo in here, but nothing does. ]
*WOW IT'S A GOOD THING JOSH WARNED ME ABOUT THIS LITERALLY FIVE SECONDS AGO
shivers; do skills work? if they do he's deinventorying his heaviest jacket and a scarf to wear -- then goes to examine the candy and goblet more closely, though he doesn't touch.*
[ This island is lush with greenery and burbling freshwater. It is both refreshingly cool and comfortingly warm. Off to one side, a large ship sits on the beach, anchored down in a seemingly useless fashion. But somewhere in the greenery is the sound of running and laughter. A group of different laughs rather than singular. ]
[ You find yourself on the softest beach sand imaginable without sinking deeply into it. The sun is bright, but the sand isn't hot at all. In fact, it's rather comfortable. The ocean's water laps gently at the edge of it. A cool breeze brushes your cheek. If you look out, the ocean goes far beyond the horizon, seeming endless. ]
[ But you're probably distracted by that gigantic standing wave not that far off shore. ]
CENTRAL CHAMBER
[ All around and behind you hang six large tapestries: A tree with wide spreading branches and plain roots. An ominous castle with tall, thin spires in the midst of snow. A wide open field with tiny figures frozen in strange poses. A simple room with a desk, a cobweb growing in a ceiling corner. A large house, surrounded by forest, and in the distance is a dark cityscape. A sprawling cliffside castle lit by rays of sunlight and an ocean to one side. ]
