[ well his super soldier hearing is pretty good, so he's following the sound of those footsteps ]

[ Up the stairs finds you facing a hallway with two doors to either side facing each other and a door at the far end. All of them are shut. The wallpaper here is reminiscent of the taste of someone much older, clearly not suited for a family, and quite somber. ]

[ The footsteps seem to have gone into the door on the left. ]

[ What are kids doing here then ... Cautiously, he approaches the door on the left and cracks it open. ]

[ Inside are two cots running perpendicular to you pushed up against the wall to your right with a small table between them. They're neatly made up, and in fact look as if no one has slept in them yet. To the left is a closet door. ]

[ There's no one in here, it looks like. ]

[ ... carefully peeking under the two cots ]

[ Nothing under these cots! :U ]

[ welp. trying the door then. ]

[ That door's not budging. ]

[ And yet there's no lock on this side of the door. ]

[ ... gently, very gently exerts a bit of his super strength to yank the door open. ]

[ You break the lock! The door swings open. ]

[ And there is a kid there staring at you from where he's seated. ]

Did you really just break that door open?

[ kind of startled himself. um. still holding the door awkwardly. ]

I meant to just open it?

Well you certainly managed that.

Sorry. I'm used to being a lot smaller and weaker than this.

[ Dryly, with as much sarcasm as a ten-year-old can hold. ]

[ coming to sit next to him ]

[ He shoots you an immediately suspicious look and scoots aside. ]

[ that's okay, he'll stay in his corner ]

No, which is good. I'm strong but I don't know how fast I am yet.

[ He makes a face, sulking, then mutters. ]

So why'd you come find me anyways?

We're friends. Maybe not you and me specifically, but ...

[ gestures vaguely to the rest of the room ]

[ He stiffens. ]

[ His tone is a child's attempt to stay calm, but is shaky at best. ]

[ There's a slow hesitant relaxation in him, though now he's shooting you a funny look. ]
