A siren goes off, the sound echoing in your ears for several minutes as the world goes completely black and empty.

You’re not falling but you’re not really standing on anything either, and all that you can perceive is the sirens still blaring, loud loud loud in your ears--

There’s an explosion so huge you don’t see or hear it so much as feel it through to your very bones. You feel an impact, strange and unsettling, and you think you might be dead? Because you can’t feel your body anymore.

Slowly the sound begins to fade and light and feeling returns, allowing you to see where you are.

You’re also alive, good for you.

Your arrival is marked by the feel of sand under your feet, with the sound and smell of the ocean wafting in from behind you. A dampness hangs in the air and the sky is overcast. Directly in front of you the sand fades into a grassy hill, on top of which a white castle rests. To the left, a little ways off, you can see tall sandstone cliffs. Off to the right is a large field of sunflowers that stretches out into the distance. There are no paths or signs anywhere to be seen.

((#applecore))
It starts with a fall: the ground under your feet opens up and swallows you into darkness. Nothing is visible except your own body, not even those of your fellow heart explorers. Nothing can be heard except the wind whistling past. Under that sound, however, is a deep, steady ticking that resonates around and through you.

The falling ends when you feel something wrench deep inside your chest, and you land on your feet somewhere else.

Tick, tick, tick, tick.

You fall through space breathlessly, airlessly, your heart skipping a beat. When you land, everything is black for a moment before you rise and see who is with you and where you are...

((Important OOC Note: HOW TEMPERATURE WORKS
Each area of the heart has a temperature applied to it. This "temperature" is essentially a status effect that acts on the emotions. I'll give the details of each emotional status effect in the writeup for that area. Generally I'll give the percentage amount that it's changed, ie, "10-30% (effect)". The reason I'll give a range here is to give you leeway to play with what's comfortable for you while still maintaining the effect. However, a general guide is below:

Warm to hot - Players feel an increased sense of agitation, uncertainty, and general lack of security. All other feelings are normal.
Moderate (normal/default) - No effect. Players feel their emotion as normal.
Cool to cold - Players feel an overall decrease in emotional reaction. Severe lack of affect is in the area.

Players are of course permitted, if you think your character would, to realize their current emotions are under some kind of influence.))

You find yourselves in a classroom, seated in the students' desks. A few other seats in the first three rows seem to be in use--but conspicuously, no one is sitting there. There is a teacher's desk in the front, and a blackboard behind it with writing on it. There are doors on the left and right, and behind you, on the high level of the room, there are three doors: bright Carnelian orange, polished oak, and Sterling silver.

The lights in here are also intensely bright--and flickering, constantly, casting the room rapidly between dark and blinding.

[ You suddenly find yourself standing in the absolute thick of an intense snowstorm. The wind whips around and over you, pummeling flurries into you. The cold sinks down deep into your bones with what feels like an unshakable grip. The furthest you can see with any decent clarity is three feet around you, beyond which everything becomes shadow blobs of themselves. ]

[ Yet strangely there's a light in the distance. It doesn't look particularly welcoming, but it's certainly different. Better get moving before the snow starts building up around you. ]

The first thing you'll notice is red. Dark red all around you. The sky, the ground—everything is red. It's impossible to make out anything among the color. But if you attempt to stare at any particular space for too long, you'll discover it pulses, flows.

It looks something like... )

You are falling, for the ground opened just near you and had you stumble in. Your ascent downward is of slow leisure, but it takes neither too long nor does it pass too quickly.

An endless length of suspended furniture rings you. They are all pallid, white things, and always just barely out of reach. Each piece, whether it be furniture or portrait, return a cracked reflection as you drift downward, though none are damaged in the slightest. Beyond them, there is only darkness intertwined into the shape of vines and flowers, pressed roughly against the black.

Then it all disappears.
