[you are suddenly at the bottom of a pile of heavy, square-cornered objects. it is rather hard to breathe and they're jabbing you in uncomfortable places. you may want to move.]

[stumbles a bit as he scrambles away, rubbing at his sides as he surveys the room]

[slips off the game bracelet and pockets it before moving toward the nearest box to inspect it]

[it is indeed a crate! about a foot square, nailed firmly shut.]

[running his hands along the edges]

Wonder what she keeps in here. . .

[then bends over to try to pick it up]

[it's not very heavy...]

[. . . gives it a light shake, listening for anything rattling inside]

[a faint rustly sort of noise . . .?]

[places the box on the ground and pulls out his pocket knife. time to try to pry this lid open]

[you can pry it open!

it's full of cotton]

[snorts, then pockets. YAY COTTON.

also moving to pick up and shake another box to see if it is cottony too]

[this one is heavier and more solidly rustly]

[oho. time to use that pocket knife to pry this box open as well]

[it's full of sawdust :'D]

[. . . not as easy to pocket as cotton, but. takes a handful of that too, then climbs to his feet to scan the box room for a door or an exit of some kind]

[there is a door! you'll have to clear boxes from in front of it to get out]

[doing just that, stacking the boxes on the sides of the door before reaching out to push it open]

[it takes a lot of forcing to get open. the hinges are rusty.

outside is a long stretch of straight stony hallway -- you could go left or right -- with a long carpet covering the floor. there are torches esconced along the wall at regular intervals, but they are unlit. it's all dust-free, but very dim and faded; there was once some sort of pattern to the carpet, but you can barely see it now.]

[deeeefinitely taking notice of the faded surroundings, and feels another twinge of concern for Firebird as they register. closes the door behind him and starts down the right side of the hallway]

[the corner turns sharply up ahead. it's...brighter?]

[blackjacked]

[lifting a hand to shield his eyes a bit, but presses forward toward the brightness]

[dramatispersonae]

[the right wall of this hallway is absolutely covered with hundreds of torches. three of them at the bottom are lit. the rest are unlit. the left wall is covered with a huge tapestry. the golden brightness is coming from an open door up ahead.]

[stops in the hallway for a moment, glancing from the tapestry to the torches, reaching out see if one of the lit ones is removable]

[dramatispersonae]

[the tapestry is also faded, but you can make out some sort of hunting scene. men and horses and trees and hounds. what they're pursuing is not visible.

the torch is removable. there's a clicking sound when you tug it free, however, and the eyes of one hound in the tapestry glow red.]
