[blinks, then turns back to the door to open it slightly again, this time holding the open box of snakeskin out for the hound to sniff at]

Heeeere, puppy puppy. . .

[again it leaps for the crack in the door -- and seems to narrow as it hits the gap, slipping right through and disappearing into the box with a sizzling noise.

you are now holding a box full of snakeskin scraps . . . that is completely on fire.]

[YELPING and doing just that, stumbling back a bit and waving his hands through the air to soothe the burns]

the fire burns itself out pretty quickly; all the scraps inside have been consumed. the box is unharmed. there is a tiny bright red stone among the ashes inside.]

[gently clenching his hands open and closed, wincing a bit amid the pain. also eyes that box warily. . . then crouches down to dig the red stone out of the ashes.]

[it's pretty...!]

[uoooooh. . . inspects a la icon for a moment before pocketing. keeps both of his hands in said pockets too as he exits the room and heads down the right hallway again, straight for the bright door]

[the torches are still burning; every creature in the tapestry has faded out of sight, except for two of the hounds.

the bright door is quiet now. enter y/n?]

[you are in a very large room. the floor, walls and ceiling are all huge mirrors. there is a fancy copper lantern three feet high that burns with bright hot light; all the reflections off the glass intensify it several times over. extending from the top of the lantern is a black pole that leads to a platform overhead. you might be able to climb it but it's at least twenty feet up.

there are copper birdcages everywhere, of all sizes and shapes and makes, crowding all the space around the lantern. a forest of cages. it's difficult to navigate.]

[only twenty feet? man I scale the cliffs every day, we are so trying to climb up that pole.

it's a bit more difficult due to the burns on his palms but he is determined anyway]

[you can make it up to the platform! the platform will hold your weight.

in the middle of it is a small round indent that holds an empty bird's nest of spun copper wire]

[empty, huh :|a takes out the red stone and places that into the bird's nest]

[nothing happens!

...careful the nest is really hot.]

No good, huh?

[is careful not to burn his hands even more on it as he retrieves the red stone, letting it cool down a bit before pocketing it again. then grabs some strips of Coral-colored cloth and wraps them around his hands so he can try to move the nest out of the indent]

[it doesn't seem to want to shift!]

Geez. Stubborn, aren't you?

[pulls back for now, and-- well, while he's this high up, he might as well use the better vantage point to see what else, if anything, is in the room]

[CAGES EVERYWHERE

you might be able to hop on top of some of the higher ones from up here and monkey around! just make sure you pick one that looks like it's securely fastened to something]

[BUT FIREBIRD I THOUGHT YOU HATED CAGES :(a

. . . actually yeah let's monkey around a bit. standing up straight and choosing a sturdy looking cage, before leaping off of the platform right toward it]
