Misato's Heart

You find yourself at the start of a very long corridor. The temperature is cool and all of the walls are made of smooth, steel plaques. You can make out what seems like a door several feet away, at the other end of the corridor.

Your footsteps echo as you walk and exactly halfway through you can see two more corridors branching out to the sides:

To the left, at exactly the same distance as both doors, is a large board displaying some text you can’t make out from here.

To the right, there appears to be nothing but a desk with some papers on it and an empty, red chair behind it.

You may as well not climb all the way if we can go to the closest floor, first.

What would be the point of going there? We could have used the elevator for that.

I was thinking of the floor that was "broken." Past where the elevator went... it'd only be a lift to be closer to that.
