Misato's Heart

You find yourself at the start of a very long corridor. The temperature is cool and all of the walls are made of smooth, steel plaques. You can make out what seems like a door several feet away, at the other end of the corridor.

Your footsteps echo as you walk and exactly halfway through you can see two more corridors branching out to the sides:

To the left, at exactly the same distance as both doors, is a large board displaying some text you can’t make out from here.

To the right, there appears to be nothing but a desk with some papers on it and an empty, red chair behind it.

Once you reach the other side it is easy to see the doors are actually those of an elevator. There is only one button you can press to call it, and a sign under it that reads:

MAXIMUM WEIGHT CAPACITY OF TWO PEOPLE

[pushes button]

Ding! The doors open. The elevator is surprisingly spacious inside—more than you’d expect from something with such a low weight capacity, at any rate.

It must take us to the other levels. Maybe it's the things listed across the way.

I don't think so, not like you would think of it normally, anyway. It's just a device. A complicated one.
