[ You find yourself standing in a grassy area lined with plastic cafeteria tables—the Mall. Surrounding the area is a giant gray wall, shimmering and impenetrable—it sinks into the ground and, if you look up, seems to reach all the way up to the sky.
None of the nondescript kids milling around the Mall seem to give the barrier any notice—they’re much more focused on bartering for food and other supplies. There’s smoke in the air, burnt meat and tobacco and weed, all mixing together. You can hear distant music, like someone just out of sight is playing the guitar… not very well, but music is music. Various handwritten signs hang from the tables, promoting their wares—Quinn’s Supreme Seafood, Gifts of the Worm, Meats of Mystery, Totally Solar—and in the center of the grass a fire pit is burning away. Next to the pit is a smaller table where the sign reads “STOP HERE!!! Maps and Supplies!” Brianna herself is sitting behind this table, though she looks slightly younger than she is in Aather. ]
[ You’re in the Carnelian treehouse! At least, something inside you is sure that this is Carnelian. It doesn’t look quite like it did in either Camelot or the Black Woods—the layout is somewhere in between. A fire is burning in the fireplace, it smells like food is cooking in the kitchen, and you have a sense of comfort that hits you as soon as you enter. It looks like several fun things have been set up around the cabin: a group of toy soldiers marching into battle, a set of cards on the table, and a sketchpad is lying on the couch. ]
[ You head north to Coates Academy. The grounds are beautifully maintained, but the building itself is strangely foreboding. As you walk closer, there’s a sense of loss and homesickness that sweeps over you. You can follow the driveway up to the entrance or head around to the back of the building. ]
[ You follow the map east and find yourself entering the Perdido Beach town plaza. The sun is shining, there’s the faint scent of the ocean on the breeze… This seems like it could be a nice place, with a little upkeep. Unfortunately, right now, several of the buildings lining the plaza are burnt out or crumbling. A few places look like they’ve been visited recently, though: the town hall, McDonald’s, and a shady area off to one side of the plaza. ]
[ You find yourself standing on the shore of a big lake. Everything seems peaceful. Boats bob on the surface of the water. Off to the left, there’s a path… ]
