GM - Onyx

The room is like any other room, really—a cabin with a door, and windows, and beds. But the fireplace never gets warm, and the beds are hard, and the air is cold.

On the table there is food—water, and dry bread, and there is a pot of stew that always stays warm, and full, and smells delicious.

There are also five cards, waiting for your decision.

[for those that might notice big changes: Sasuke is wearing his usual ninja clothes instead of anything that was designed for Onyx. He is even more on edge than usual, observing the cards with a cynical look.]

But what is the point of the game? Gaining points?

Yeah, looks like it.

Let's pick the cards we're playing first. Then we make a list of teams.

And we're not targeting ourselves.

So we're saving our own skins.

The rules are specific. We might suffer more consequences if we target ourselves.

Yeah, so, I guess that's it. So, which teams, which cards?

I think there are two strategies we can attempt.

One, try and cancel out as many cards as possible. Risky and completely foolish, but there is a secret winning criteria. We won't win points and we might would only hurt ourselves. I think we should discard it.

Two, we play the three cards with the most points each round, we risk three points in that lottery each day and we never protect ourselves unless we haven't got another choice.

We can leave one high point card to the lottery.

No. Onyx is always targeted during the first rounds. We need as many points as possible if we want to survive. We can recover points this way.

—What do you mean we're always targeted?

That's how it's been like, several times in the past. In games like these, the knights are targeted easily.

... Yeah.

Okay.

We should play our highest cards this round if we want to survive. Then we protect for the second round and play less damaging cards to keep building up our points.

Impossible. Our priority is survival and the only way to do that is to play this as smart as possible.

That doesn't mean we have to -- [ yes it does stephanie brown ] -- there's got to be a better way.

There isn't a better way. And we are playing.

We have to prioritize our survival.

I want us to survive, I just...don't want to hurt anyone else.

I guess I'm conflicted in what I want, to be honest.

Snap out of it. We have to hurt people, and they will hurt us. Knights never come out of this okay, so be prepared to die unless we play to win.

I'm not going to play to win in a game where we're going to be killing people!

The point is to have enough points to protect ourselves from the second round and up. I don't care about winning, but we have to play as if we were.
