GM - Onyx

The room is like any other room, really—a cabin with a door, and windows, and beds. But the fireplace never gets warm, and the beds are hard, and the air is cold.

On the table there is food—water, and dry bread, and there is a pot of stew that always stays warm, and full, and smells delicious.

There are also five cards, waiting for your decision.

There isn't a better way. And we are playing.

We have to prioritize our survival.

I want us to survive, I just...don't want to hurt anyone else.

I guess I'm conflicted in what I want, to be honest.

Snap out of it. We have to hurt people, and they will hurt us. Knights never come out of this okay, so be prepared to die unless we play to win.

I'm not going to play to win in a game where we're going to be killing people!

The point is to have enough points to protect ourselves from the second round and up. I don't care about winning, but we have to play as if we were.

I don't know about you, but if you drained all the blood from my body, I'd just be plain old dead.

So? They will play just as dangerous cards on us unless we can protect ourselves and for that we need points. Knights are always targeted. I refuse to let that happen again.

I'm not killing anyone. I don't care if they're going to do it to us -- anything but that.

I care. And you won't be killing anybody. I chose it.

But we all have to live with it.

Give me a good reason and maybe -- maybe! -- I'll think about it, but I would play any other card than that one.

It's practically painless compared to slowly burning alive. And we need as many points as possible if we want to survive. We will obtain 17 points if we do it my way, compared to 10 if we play the cards with lowest points.

Besides, there's no guarantee that we will get less damaging cards again. We might as way save them for last.

Fine, let me think about it. You're asking a lot of us, you know.

[ is she close enough to hear that conversation about Onyx's death = Mal getting hurt? ]

She might get hurt if all of us die, even if David isn't here. Especially if the rest of Onyx arrive later, which might happen with our past record.

[ she's silent for a long moment before she hits her fists against her thighs in anger ]

[ no, she can't let Mal get hurt -- there's too much resting on that 'might happen' to consider it unimportant any more ]

I don't want her to get hurt. Even if it's just a maybe -- [ sigh ] Okay. Fine.

[suddenly Sasuke is respecting and caring a lot more about Onyx, even those he's disagreeing heavily with.]

I don't want to risk that happening again either.

She's too important to all of us.

Just...don't hurt Amethyst, okay? And I'd rather not touch Emerald, either.

. . . Emerald was out of the question. So far, Emerald, Amethyst, Carnelian and Coral are out.

I figured, with your brother and all.

Those are all fine with me. I don't think I have any other important people on other teams.

I'd rather avoid Tiger's Eye if possible, too.

Okay. That leaves us still with a lot of teams to pick from.

Several of them, unless Silver or Dino want to add more to the list.
