Apple's Heart

Your arrival is marked by the feel of sand under your feet, with the sound and smell of the ocean wafting in from behind you. A dampness hangs in the air and the sky is overcast. Directly in front of you the sand fades into a grassy hill, on top of which a white castle rests. To the left, a little ways off, you can see tall sandstone cliffs. Off to the right is a large field of sunflowers that stretches out into the distance. There are no paths or signs anywhere to be seen.

The sand crumbles away easily. As more light is let in, the flowers seem to get bigger.

Emil is being smart and trying to climb them. It looks pretty difficult.

In the meantime, that flower is slowly growing candy in its center.

[but pausing, taking the piece of candy and putting an apple in its place before taking the cliffs itself. in spite of my big fat head I am pretty good at climbing.]

Then you might make it pretty far up before you hit any difficulties. The cliff gets smoother the higher up you go, and there are fewer footholds.

You are winning through sheer determination. It will take a while, but eventually you reach the top of the cliffs. Take a breather, or look around?

There is a thick tree growing out of the clifftop rock, and a broken iron door standing a little ways behind it. Besides that there are a few peculiar items simply lying around and a very good view of everything below.

Near the edge of the cliff there is an arrow embedded into the stone. A messenger bag is hanging on a branch of the tree, as is a simple necklace. There is a withered bouquet of flowers behind the iron door, and a bowl of ice cream. There is a life-size wood carving of a baby black bear sleeping under the tree.

Touching the bag gives you a flash of this scene. If you look inside there is a book, a lamp, sweets, matches, and some medicinal plants.

It's a big, thick book on medicinal mountain plants.

If you touch the door you get a flash of this scene. The ice cream just looks like it's melting.
