[checking to see if anything can be opened or changed, also why they cast strange shadows... whether there's anything out of the ordinary about them besides their time]

When you touch the first one...

You see a memory (from Rolo's POV) of Acedia and Rolo talking about the incident with Acedia showing Yayoi a murder memory, and Acedia telling Rolo he enjoys talking to him. Some warm feelings.
