Rolo's Heart

Tick, tick, tick, tick.

You fall through space breathlessly, airlessly, your heart skipping a beat. When you land, everything is black for a moment before you rise and see who is with you and where you are...

It holds still, laughing.

Everything in there looks bent and damaged. You'll have to remove the broken joint gears and slide new ones in. It is a slow and painful process, the edges just sharp enough and firmly enough attached to hurt your fingers as you work at it.

[Blatantly ignoring any cuts and jabs to work the broken pieces out, and then slide in the new.]

It watches you, laughing. Slowly you get that joint repaired.

[That's unnerving... but moving on to do the rest of the broken or missing joints as well.]

Slowly, you get all its joints more or less repaired.

Its casing is still damaged and its eye is still missing. Is there anything you want to do for this?

[Fetching the plaster from the bench and coming back to try using that to mend the cracks and splinters in it.]

You can't move until this dries, okay?

"Okay, I believe you."

[plastering up all the cracks o7]

Soon the automaton is ... fixed. It's rather patchwork and an ugly job, sorry to say, but it's moving around sluggishly under its own power and not falling apart.

[Hey my skillset is limited to digging holes for artifacts ok I tried :(]

Is that okay...?

"I believe in you," it tells you, and reaches for your arm.

Aah... thank you...

[watches???]

It gets up derpily and starts tidying. Fear glowers at it from his corner.

[...pats it]

Thank you. Please don't stress yourself, you still aren't completely well.

It laughs. "It's okay! I believe I can help!"

[Goes over to Fear]

He is fixed now, right?

"Is he really..." Fear looks ... well, afraid.

Somewhat, but I do not know very much about machinery. I think that you could do a much better job of it.

"I don't want him!!"

That does not mean that he deserves to be thrown away.

"That's exactly what it means!"

Would you like me to take him somewhere else?

"I don't want him with me... I don't even want him to exist." Fear knots its fingers together.

I will take him upstairs then.

"Do what you want."
