Rolo's Heart

Tick, tick, tick, tick.

"Why!? What do you want from him!"

[h-hesitates]

Nothing, personally. It's part of a game, but as long as we can figure out how to exit without changing anything...

"Nothing, nothing..." It looks hurt despite its merry face, withdrawing a little, hunching over itself.

[o-oh no.]

It's not—we don't want to hurt you. But if there is anything we can to improve things... i-it's just always difficult with these games. So it might be better not to touch anything...

"I want to be touched!"

Touched?

He knots his jointed hands together, uneasily. "No, never mind..."

[reaching out with her hand, hesitantly] Please... we want to help...

It extends one hand to touch its fingertips to her. "Why do you want to help me?"

[lets him, brushing her own against his]

Because it's the least we can do, while we're here. And if Gust ever went into my heart, I'd like for him to try and help me too, even if we're not that close.

He grabs your hand, holding it too tightly.

"Why??"

[lets him, squeezing in return]

Because... that's how we can make each other happy.

"Why do you want to make me happy?"

[... it takes her a couple of seconds to answer this time]

It might be selfish. But helping other people be happy would also make me happy. Help... give me a purpose... [she sounds even more uncertain about that last part, like she'd never considered it before]

"A purpose..." He feels her fingers. "You want a purpose? A purpose with me in it?"

I do. Yes.

"...okay..." It squeezes your hand again. "If you really want me."

[squeezing back, doesn't seem like she wants to let go of that hand any time soon]

I do. I do... please.

"Then I guess you can stay here..." It lifts her hand to its cheek and nuzzles it. "I guess you can be mine."

Yours...?

"Something which isn't not-mine."

[silent, not really sure what to say]

Is that the only way to help you?

"I don't understand what you're asking me."

... I want to help, but from the outside, once this game is over. The way it should be... instead of changing things inside someone's heart.

"If you want to be with me, then be with me. I don't care how you do it, as long as you're with me because you want me."
