[ You are within a circle of trees and angels all made of water and all glowing faintly in your team's color. Somehow everything beyond this circle disappears in that glow. ]
[ The shape of a silver hand glows just beneath the surface of the water, waiting to be touched and imbued with the memory requested. ]
Memory: (Describe the chosen memory in second person--it doesn't have to be enormously detailed, but it should give a good impression.) Character It Comes From: Keyword: (Assign a keyword to this memory that you feel best sums up the experience, ideally a conceptual noun, e.g. treachery or avarice.)
Memory: You've been climbing through the ranks at an impressive pace, and have upheld your duty to the Order of Lorelei marvelously. Now that you are to be a Watcher, you will serve as your grandfather eyes and ears on the Outer Land and report back to him to ensure that the world is on the track that the Score had set before it. But you must know fully what such a duty would entail, and you stand before your grandfather, anxious to hear.
He starts almost apologetically, talking about how unfortunate Hod's tragic fall was. Your blood runs cold, already knowing you won't like what you're about to hear. And then he tells you how Hod's destruction was foretold by the Score. About how the loss of your homeland was a necessary sacrifice for the greater good, so that humanity may one day achieve the prosperity that was promised to it. A prosperity that, unfortunately, your mother didn't have the chance to see.
Now you're screaming at your grandfather. How could he have let it happen? Why didn't he do anything? Why did so many Watchers know what would have happened and done nothing to stop it? But the answer to each of those questions is "The Score foretold--"
Finally you turn around and storm away. You hate the Score, and you will do anything to ensure it's destroyed. Anything.
[ The silver hand closes and retreats into the depths. For a fleeting moment, the memory imparted to it ripples out and passes briefly, vaguely, through the minds of all those present. ]
Virtue: Persistence Why Did You Choose This Virtue? No matter what we're up against, we never give up and we always continue forward on the path we have set for ourselves.
[ The trees and angels surrounding you quietly melt away, replaced by thirteen archways, each with glowing writing upon them. You have the sudden awareness that you will need to explore three of these entrances. ]
A tale of despair. A tale of determination. A tale of betrayal. A tale of a pioneer. A tale of friendship. Another tale of determination. A tale of a fight. Yet another tale of determination. A tale of bitterness. A tale of discord. A tale of partnership. A tale of trust.
[ Comment here every time you decide to pass through an arch. You will be presented with a scenario in each one, to which you must then react as a team. If you don't wish to decide on a reaction or solution to any given scenario, you may exit the archway and pick another one, but to finish the game you must solve three of the tales given to you here. ]
[ You imagine something like the following scenario: ]
You huddle over a cauldron full of simmering magic within a stone tower besieged by dark forces. Outside, monsters rage. Here within the tower, you are locked in the study of your master and teacher, the royal magician--and he needs your help in finding just the right potion to defeat the evil powers raging outside. You must brave the constant threat from without to put together the right mixture.
[ You imagine something like the following scenario: ]
You and your friends want nothing more than to become the apprentices of the royal sorceror, and so you have gone to the magical academy to try to prove your worth. On the day you thought you would graduate and show your talents to the royal sorceror, however, you arrive on the grounds of the academy to see the whole place in flames. Your friends weep around you in terror. You have only the small learnings you've picked up from your time as a student to shield you and all those dear to you, including your best friend. You have a sneaking suspicion that all of this may be a devious illusion--but that doesn't make it feel any less frightening.
ROUND ONE
Tell me of a time, whether here or in your world before, when one of you suffered and endured a trial.
