The room is like any other room, really—a cabin with a door, and windows, and beds. But the fireplace never gets warm, and the beds are hard, and the air is cold.

On the table there is food—water, and dry bread, and there is a pot of stew that always stays warm, and full, and smells delicious.

I don't want to play like this any more than you do, Phoenix.

So we won't! We can play like we want to!

If. . . if it means we don't spread anymore violence, then I wouldn't mind being hurt at all. But we'd all have to agree.

So Leif would have to agree, you mean.

He's part of this team, just as much as you and I are.

I know that. I won't forget that, but I don't agree with him.

We've got to wait out a round. We could still get points back. If we just play one card we won't hurt any more people and maybe—we could get enough for the barrier.

. . . how? If we don't play cards, we won't earn points.

Phoenix. . . there's no way for us to get enough points for a barrier unless we play. We don't have to play, but I think it important to realize what the consequences of not playing mean.
