Taisuke's heart

There's something humming inside of you, a strange new power etches itself into your heart, something you can't quite sense what it is but can feel it's importance. An endless sea of stars stretches before you, shining brightly, but despite the beauty of the scene there's a yearning deep in your gut. You need to go, you need more, you need to move. As if in answer, one light shines brightly in the distance and calls you forward, blinding you as you reach towards it--

[After a long time of walking in the dark, you finally find something. The source of the sobbing is a very young Taisuke, likely no older than six or seven, wearing a simple black suit and curled up on the surface of the water with his knees drawn to his chest. He doesn't react to your appearance.]

[crouching beside him--not kneeling, keeping himself out of the water as much as he can. and very gently] ...hey.

[He doesn't respond. The closer you get to him, the more that feeling hits, getting harder and harder to ignore.]

He was really ... messed up when he was little. This is probably the manifestation of that.

[clutching him and gasping, shaking his head violently like he can throw the foreign thoughts out of his head by sheer stubbornness]

[yes, let's do that, but do it while trying to move out of this area, if there's a way?]

[You can't see any doors. The only thing around is a can of orange soda rolling across the water.]

[getting himself under control as fast as humanly possible, though depending upon how fast that is Riku may have a koala]

[actually, Riku encourages that, and then reaches out toward the can of pop and grabs it, and then turns it toward the child to offer it to him]

[Memories flash through your mind as you touch it, overwhelming your own senses. Taisuke laughing and talking to his parents happily as they drop him off at school, telling them goodbye and saying he'll see them when they come to pick him up. He puts his drink down as he gets out, leaving it there.

His parents don't come. The police do. There's a car wreck, he's crying, his sister is crying and clinging to his hand and begging him not to die too, don't leave her alone please don't die.

They found something in the wreckage, something that jammed the brakes and caused the accident. Taisuke sees them present the can he was drinking from earlier.]

There's nothing positive in here to boost, and approaching him directly just drags us down with him...

How does this sort of thing usually work? Do you apply outside influence like we've tried, or is there something within the heart that'll help?

... This kind of heart is different. Maybe we should just ... pour out the can.

That might just mix up the contents even more with his grief...

[yeah deliberately bumping that can with his foot. :|a and going very still for a moment]

Damn... [swallowing] I'd go for taking it with us and try to leave. He's drowning in it. If we can't pull him out of it, then we could try to give him some distance...

I'm not sure that's a good idea, either. Fire told me that once he got older, he got better at dealing with this stuff. Wouldn't it be a bad idea to just take something that ... is part of how he's learned to function out of him?
