Apple's Heart

Your arrival is marked by the feel of sand under your feet, with the sound and smell of the ocean wafting in from behind you. A dampness hangs in the air and the sky is overcast. Directly in front of you the sand fades into a grassy hill, on top of which a white castle rests. To the left, a little ways off, you can see tall sandstone cliffs. Off to the right is a large field of sunflowers that stretches out into the distance. There are no paths or signs anywhere to be seen.

He looks up sharply. "How rude, asking me without introducing yourself first."

Ahh, I'm Night.

He closes his book. "You're a guest, I take it?"

Yeah. What's your name?

He sits up straighter. "I am the First Prince of Tanburn, Raji. You are speaking to royalty."

Raji, huh? What have you go there?

"That's none of your business. Don't be so nosy."

Ahh, maybe I can help. This stuff looks really useful so I wouldn't mind learning whatever I can.

He huffs. "It's nothing you would be interested in."

Try me.

He holds up the book. It's a book on concubines.

Ahh... is that something you really need to study?

"I'm just looking through it. Why shouldn't I?"

Ahh, are you looking for one of those...

"I've been considering it."

What's wrong with just looking for a girlfriend?

"I'm too busy for that kind of thing!"

This sounds like a lame excuse to me.

"It's a perfectly valid reason!"

No, it's really lame.

He scowls. "Just who do you think you are, insulting me like that?!"

Hey, I'm giving helpful advice. Anyway, I'm here to find someone. I think it's Apple. She's the one who's always talking about medicines.

"Yes, I know her. She's here somewhere."

Any idea where to look? I'll quit hassling you about your reading material. I've got something to show her.

"Upstairs. That makes the most sense, doesn't it?"
