Apple's Heart

Your arrival is marked by the feel of sand under your feet, with the sound and smell of the ocean wafting in from behind you. A dampness hangs in the air and the sky is overcast. Directly in front of you the sand fades into a grassy hill, on top of which a white castle rests. To the left, a little ways off, you can see tall sandstone cliffs. Off to the right is a large field of sunflowers that stretches out into the distance. There are no paths or signs anywhere to be seen.

The hissssss gets louder and the mists gets thicker.

Got a problem with me here?

The hisssss in your ears gets even louder, like something is right behind you--

Someone grabs you by the arm and tugs you out of the fields. "Hey, hey, you shouldn't be in there, you know?"

[woah, rounding on them]

Get off me!

It's a young guy dressed in a funny outfit. He holds up both hands, a light smile on his face.

"There's no need for that. You just can't be in there. Don't want you getting hurt."

Why?!

"Because it's dangerous, obviously."

...

Idiot.

[moving past him back into the sunflower seeds. This time he's searching out the hiss...]

"Oi, oi, listen when people talk to you..."

The guard follows. But the mist seems to have dissipated, and the hissss can no longer be heard.

Go away.

[STALKING THROUGH THE SUNFLOWERS, IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS COMING FROM OVER THERE]

He follows.

"But you seem so accident-prone. I would be remiss in my duties if I didn't keep an eye on you."

If you don't go away, I'll kill you.

He laughs.

"A kid like you? Try again."

[HE BRISTLES HAND REACHING FOR HIS SWORD]

The guard doesn't even go for his sword; he just looks a little amused.

"I don't mean it as an insult. Take it easy. I don't want anyone to get hurt. She'll be mad at me."
