In the chalice is a clear liquid--kind of like water.

I doubt he'd want to hurt us on purpose.

[although she is handing it over]

[Doesn't really think something bad will happen, but takes the chalice and drinks from it first! handling it over to Marine is nothing else happens?]

As soon as you drink from the chalice, a prickle of discomfort spreads through you . . . the more you drink the more powerful it'll become, like you're being forcibly dragged somewhere you don't want to go.

[waaatching zuko carefully]

[. . . he's fortunately stubborn enough to keep drinking if that's what it takes! tensing but not dropping the chalice or giving up at all, but he's not hiding the discomfort from his face.]

You drink every drop, but the sense that you don't belong in your own skin won't disappear for a while. There's a small black stone at the bottom of the chalice.

[That sure is a thing, then. Looking uncomfortable, but picks up the black stone with one hand and hands it to Marine. Also shakes his head once.]

This must be the key.

What do we do with it, though? There's not really anywhere to go but back out.

[looks up at the statue...]

[aaaalso waiting for the answer to that, since he doesn't seem sure. Honestly hoping that it was a key, as weird as it is.]

[Yes, we can both agree that hugging Swift should happen, but you should probably be the one that does that.

Okay. Experiencing this on top of all those feelings is enough to make him start to reach his own limits, so he's starting to try to keep it together now. Also it takes him a moment to say something. :'D SO AWKWARD AND UNSURE.]

A memory plays, a confusing jumble of embarrassment, discomfort, defensiveness and . . . something else entirely, something you don't understand and don't particularly care to examine.

Prominent throughout, and lingering even after the memory fades, is a sense of frustration--at not understanding yourself, having feelings and memories you can't quite begin to process dragged forcibly into the open, looking for answers to questions you don't know how to formulate and not getting them, anywhere.
