What follows is an exhaustive description of Shirley's appearance, personality, past, and habits . . . it's scattered and patchy in some places, clearly an incomplete recollection, but you learn that she's a sweet, shy girl who can call down the sea god Nerifes, that she and the author traveled together extensively, that she might be of a different race--possibly a different species?, and that she once slapped the author into some very significant revelations about himself and may have changed his life. The scroll is mostly free of any emotional content--it doesn't mention how its author feels about this Shirley at all--but the level of detail itself tells you a few things.

Coming to the end of the path, you see a tall iron gate, with a basket of blank scrolls hanging from it. The gate's closed, with no latch or lock, but there's a small circular recess jutting out at about the height where one would normally be. You could put something in it, maybe.
