Some of my group answered that they would imprison the man and hospitalize any of the women who survived.

That does not sound entirely different from our answer. We elected to imprison him where he cannot cause more harm to others, and to impress upon him the severity of his crimes. Further punishment would be left to the local jurisdiction.
