Changing them physically, by altering their appearance. Changing their capabilities, by teaching them something new. Changing them mentally, by showing them a different way of thinking.

Round Two - The Gingerbread House

When your answers are decided, the lights turn on.

You find yourself in a dark and dusty basement that smells pretty terrible. Inside, you can find an oven roaring a fire. There is a mannequin of a young girl sweeping a floor while a mannequin of a boy is trapped inside of a metal cage. Though the scenery is moving, it's sort of looping over and over kind of like an animated gif.

Oh, we must escape.

Judging by the table with dishes set up, you can sort of guess what's about to happen.

Or we will be eaten.

A figure whose face you cannot see had entered the room, broom in her hand.

right?

We want to change the cage physically; make the space between the bars wider so the boy can easily slip through and out of it to escape. We want to change the girl's capabilities; we want to give her speed, so she can take the boy and run with him as fast as she can. Then we want to change the woman mentally; make her realize that what she's doing is wrong, so she'll be willing to let them escape.

[so, "change them physically" to the cage, "change their capabilities" to the girl, and "change them mentally" to the woman]

Round 3 - The story can change

The woman cannot see very well so she did not realize that the young boy had been small enough to go through the bars and escape. He whispers quietly, "Okay, lets go."

The young girl however was not sure. She knew she could run if needed, but "It doesn't end this way, does it?"

"Does it matter?"

Before they could continue speaking, the woman spoke up, holding a finger, "Children . . . wherever you are . . . there is something I have to say."

"No, we have to settle this now!"

The fire roars loudly. And the scene ends.

We're not happy with these results, obviously. In the end, plenty was different, but nothing really changed. The girl had the physical capabilities to make things go differently, but she didn't know if it was okay to change the way she thought things were supposed to be.

... You can help someone change. Sometimes. But sometimes people have reasons they don't think they can change, too, even if they want to. So, we have to know the reason why she thinks things shouldn't change before anything else. Maybe we can convince her otherwise, and maybe we can't. But... it's worth a shot, either way.
