Lorelei stands on the edge of the sandbar, holding something in her hands. She says nothing, but she holds it up to you with a plaintive expression of earnest curiosity: what is this? Then she sets it down on the sand, gives you one last longing glance, and walks into the water. There's a splash, and she's gone.

Pants are an item of clothing worn on the lower half of the body, from the waist to the ankles, around each leg separately. They are worn for the purpose of protecting the skin from the sun and maintaining community standards of decency. They can be held up by an elastic around the waistband, or they can have a small zipper, set of buttons, or drawstring at the front. Sometimes they have pockets but this isn't mandatory. They can be made personally or purchased. If purchased, sizes are often imprecise. The size can be brought in with a belt at the waist, or, at the cuffs, be hemmed or rolled.

Needles and thread work closely together. Because of this, it's important to make sure that the thread is perfectly matched to the needle that wants to use it! A matching pair become good friends despite being totally different species. There is a very important history behind this:

For three hundred years, there was a war between needles and thread. They fought over fabric since there wasn't enough for either side. The needles would constantly raid the thread villages, until one day, a clever thread managed to sneak through the eye of one of the sharpest needles. He had the needle dangling helplessly! Well, the thread is ready to avenge its fellow threads. And the needles are dangerous. But instead of dulling it, the thread realized they could work together. He lets the needle go, and it escapes.

Later on, the thread goes back to see if it can find the needle, and finds out that the needle is a little bent. But the thread and the needle work together and figure out that they can really carefully sew things together better than they could on their own, since needles only put holes in things and threads aren't sharp enough. So then, they keep seeing each other more and more, and the thread starts to figure out that maybe needles aren't all bad, and actually, seem to be made exactly so that threads can fit in them and they can do more than they could on their own.

Anyway, so the thread became really popular with all the other threads. Like, the silk threads and everything. Because it was suddenly super good with embroidery. And things got really great, except, then the other threads found out about the unheard of needle and thread partnership. And the strongest silk thread of them all found the needle and thread together and was really mad ! But they managed to show her how well they could work together, and maybe she could find a needle to work with that was her other half, too. Really, like it was destiny.

Of course, both societies could only come together in the face of an enormous threat, but it turned out that there was a giant sword that was ripping apart all the fabric. So the needle and thread had to gather up all the threads and needles and convince them that they could work together to sew everything back together. And they didn't at first, but then they agreed to try, and they took on the sword to defeat it and sew everything up properly.

And that's why needles and threads work together now.
