At least it is a sentiment that all seem to be agreeing on. For taking on their punishments... whatever they are, I do not wish to die, but I will not stand to allow them to be injured or killed when I can do something to change it.

Fighting back, I would do gladly. Though... perhaps first I would argue the point with this authority figure with words before I argued with blades.

That's better than just blindly giving up our lives. Our friends-- our team-- they wouldn't want us to die for them as much as we don't want them to kill us.

They do not say that our friends will be punished if we refuse to take their injury. It would be a risk, but there is the option to say no and that we would not allow any to be hurt including ourselves.
