I eat fruit, but it is never a meal in and of itself, and I greatly prefer meat.

I do not eat sentients, it would be like cannibalism and disrespectful, but I would not hestitate to kill another in protection of what is mine; I have considered it before, when I thought that someone had hurt Vincent. And it is not asking that, if killing sentients alone is wrong, and so I would say on the whole that it is not wrong to kill, it is only wrong when you do it for the wrong purpose or for no purpose at all.

If killing in general is okay, then killing sentients has to be okay too. It's like saying it's okay to kill, unless you're talking about killing a dragon.

Your point is that because there are some sentients I would not want to kill or eat, then killing as a whole must be wrong, but there are more living beings that I would be willing to kill and eat than not and the question is not asking sentience: if you are to go with the majority, then I find killing acceptable. Murder is wrong, killing is not. Murder is killing done wrong.

That does not make it wrong. An incest might be ill-tempered and scratch, but that should not turn someone against all incests.
