You find yourself in a musty rectangular room floored with tatami. The room is not large, but luckily fits your team without seeming too claustrophobic. It seems to have been set up as a sort of study. There is a low desk against one wall, covered in stacks of paper cards and writing utensils. Near the desk are, of course, cushions for everyone to sit on. A circular latticed window is set into the wall perpendicular to the desk. Bright moonlight filters through, enough to provide illumination for your task. If you look through the window, you can just barely make out the shapes of a shadowy garden beyond and below… you must be at least on the second floor.

The other end of the room is dominated by a large apothecary's chest. There are many, many drawers, but none of them open save for the fourteen in the middle that have been painted with team colors. A hand-lettered sign has been placed on top of the chest: "Please turn in your stories here."

Amethyst's character lives [in a world that’s nearly fallen to Darkness]. When they were a child, they [were part of a proud herd of unicorns, until the Darkness attacked, killing most of them and turning the one other survivor, her twin brother, into the champion of Darkness]. Now that they are older, every day, they [struggle to survive with her broken horn, as her magic drains away; and to escape the forces of Darkness one more day]. This makes them feel [desperate and alone. Their twin sacrificed a chance at escape, staying with the Darkness to protect them, and is slowly being transformed into an emotionless shell with no self and no memories].

Three things that would make their life worse:

Their horn getting infected and so, joining their twin in serving the Darkness.

Being forced to kill their twin.

Cannot sleep because the Darkness could consume her.

Having her damaged horn healed before she dies.

Unable to sleep because the darkness might consume her, suffering from hunger, the unicorn is surprised when a survivor they hadn't known existed extends a hand in friendship and truly means it, offers them shelter in a non-haunted, non-corpse littered house. She moves in, but attempts to grow food continue to fail, making food scarce. Still, her friend was warm, and they talked with her. They were going to stay together, because they liked each other. They don't want to say goodbye or to be alone, and they're working to grow enough food for three, hoping to rescue her twin; but they can't. The Darkness catches up with them, preventing their escape by locking the doors of the house, trapping them. The Champion of the Darkness invades the house. He runs her friend through. She tried to parry, but her broken horn wasn't long enough. As a result of that contact, the strike not only winds up killing her new friend, but infecting her horn as well. She joins her twin; but the Darkness doesn't need two Champions, and forces them to fight to the death; a fight the broken-horned unicorn survives at the price of her twin's life. Given the food shortage, there's nothing left for the broken-horned unicorn to eat but the bodies. Now the need not to sleep is more vital than ever - she can still keep her memories of her old life as long as she stays awake, but if she falls asleep, she'll forget and become an empty shell. As long as she remembers, it feels like her twin and her friend are still with her.
