You're in a small dome-shaped chamber, the walls and floor made of white frosted glass. It's cool here.

In the middle of the floor is a small flame, with no apparent source of fuel. Arranged around it are five gleaming copper objects, each labelled:

• a tiny watering can (GROWTH)
  
• a winding watch the size of your thumbnail, which you can set to run backwards or forwards (TIME)
  
• a heart (CARE)
  
• a mesh bag full of copper flakes (STRENGTH)
  
• a lump of what seems to be metallic clay, which you can mold into whatever shape you want (CHOICE)

“Feed the flame,” Firebird says. “Today is for creation. Consider what you may make, and why.”

[For our CHOICE we are making a dragon egg. With TIME and CARE and STRENGTH, we hope that this egg will have the potential to grow into a marvelous dragon, able to fly high and free. With GROWTH, we shall extend its boundaries, so one day it can fly as far as it wishes to.]

The ground shakes and the room grows one more time; there's a low, insistent rumbling. You can no longer see the borders of this place. That sure is a full-fledged mountain rising above you now, and there are others in the distance, as well as more metallic clumps of forest . . .

There are many large caves now. You hear a loud crack in the depths of the mountain, and then a distant roaring; wherever your dragon hatched, it was deep underground. But the rumbling continues, and if you wait long enough, you can watch it erupt out of the peak. It's huge. It hovers for a little while, looking you all over, then lands.

It's pretty friendly, and it wants you to climb on its back; if you agree, it'll take you on a thrillride over the mountainous country you've made, and then land you in endgame.
