I've got an acquaintance on Carnelian who's a perfectly decent person. She's tough, but still--I sincerely doubt we're the only ones playing that way. Playing a major attack on them for the strategic reasons you brought up earlier makes sense, but do you really want to make this a revenge gangbang?
