Everyone should be familiar with the trip and stumble that accompanies the arrival into the Ring. This is no different really. There is no grass here though, rather a hard concrete softened by pillows. Once you’ve had a chance to look around, you will realize that you have in fact started off in a Ring, and three trees stand along one side of the area: a towering fruit tree bearing a great variety of fruits, a cypress, tall and strong, and a smaller tree of glass. To the opposite side of the ring are ornate lampposts. The light flickering within is more reminiscent of open flame than bulb.
A sun and full moon hang low on the sky respectively over the different edges, and the sky directly above is the middle light of dawn or dusk depending on which direction you face. There are stone archways in either direction, though the land seems to fall away abruptly just beyond the edge of the ring. The words set in gold on their surfaces are easily read:
Everyone has wings from the moment they are born.
The air here is crisp if slightly chill. It is invigorating and holds potential almost urging you onwards.
The area of the street in front of the hospital is crowded. A few ambulances, some cars, a number of people wearing black hooded coats with fur trim. They don't pay much attention to you, and the emergency room is lit with a larger group of them inside.
The glade around the waterfall’s pool forms a gentle verdant slope down to the water’s edge where it eventually turns into loose shale before disappearing into the clear blue depths. Water laps against the shoreline and the stepping-stones leading across the water to the far shore where a low ledge protrudes from the cliff face near the cascading water of the falls. The air here is filled with a calming sense of peace and tranquility, and the dull roar of the water on the rock and water of the pool almost hypnotic.
Once you have landed, a short path leads into the heart of the forest and the open glade filled with a veritable menagerie of animals. Several of them lift their heads with interest at the approach of a stranger. Others ignore your existence entirely.
A red fox glances up from his place curled loosely around a white rabbit, which remains sleeping. The fox cocks his head, his ears perking forward with interest. A short distance away, a large, scruffy-looking black tomcat sprawls with its back to you. The only indication of its attentions is the slight flick of his tail, while a beautiful longhaired yellow tabby sits regally on a high bolder. Her tail twitches slightly as well, but her attention is clearly and almost disdainfully on you.
Further back in the clearing, a lynx comes to his feet shaking his head slightly and stepping forward slightly to get a better view of your arrival. Up in a tree above him, the coming awareness of the others stirs a bright blue bunting and a barn owl into wakefulness; though a large black jaguar draped on another branch merely opens a golden eye briefly before closing it again. The bunting flutters down, landing on a bush nearby, tilting its head to get a better look at you. As it hops with soft chirps, a snake slides from its hiding place, disappearing deeper into the woods on the far side.
The fox notes the reactions of those around him and huffs softly, almost seeming to laugh.
The street here is dimmer with fewer shops still open, but one still blazes with light. From the street you can see the rows and stacks of books within.
A path leads to a two-story stone cottage with a red-shingled roof, though the sides of it are barely visible under the heavy layer of vines and flowers. There are barely-visible stained-glass windows, and the single front door is prominent, clear of flora, and painted a bright red. There is a mossy cobblestone path leading up to the door, with flowers forcing their way up around the rocks at every opportunity.
A path runs through the heart of the sunflowers, which tower above you. The light here is sharp and with an almost painful clarity, you can pick out the smallest movements of the rustling leaves and stalks of the flowers, but you can catch a flash of bright colors from the far end of the path.
Following the path, you’ll come to a clearing. In the center, sixteen large gemstones thrust up from the scrubby grass here, one for each of the teams. Some stones tower almost as high as the surrounding flowers. Others barely come up to you knee. They all glitter with facets, which catch the light readily, flashing scenes of familiar or not so familiar faces within the stone.
You arrive in the center of the tower the cross shape area in the courtyard of the large building complex. Once your feet touch the ground, you suddenly become aware of eightpeople silently watching you, looking down on your position from a rooftop.
The boy in the flight helmet and bandages speaks first, laughing. "We have guests!"
The pink haired boy in a church inspired robe frowns. "Arriving without an invitation, minus twenty points."
At this point, a familiar redhead and a couple of others crack up. "Haha -- hey hey, I think we should see what our guests want. It could be they've come to entertain us."
The street is lit with designer clothing stores except for one building. Its front entrance has vertical metal bars, but it's open and easy to step inside. There doesn't seem to be a sign on the front of the building.
YOU ARE ONNA ROOFTOP!... no, really. You're on a rooftop in the center of downtown Tokyo. There's lights and street noises drifting up from the streets below. The rooftop itself isn't quiet though. There are about thirty men all in their late teens and early twenties, drinking and carrying on at the other side of the rooftop. Most of them are wearing the black, furlined coat of the Volcano group, and those that aren't have obviously taken them off for now while they kick back and relax. There is a lot of rough housing and idiocy going on. A few bets over conbini runs and races. All in all, they're a bunch of kids out having fun for the evening. Beyond the group are a couple of darkened areas that they don't seem to be paying much attention to.
One of them looks over finally, catching sight of you on the rooftop, and there's a momentary pause before he heads over, smiling but with a certain tension about him.
The area that opens before you is obviously a gully, a ditch, a drainage culvert, though the massive size of it could also lead one to consider it almost a creek as well. A man with dark, curly hair stands there waiting, his hands in his pockets and a smile on his face. He seems completely at ease with your presence here.
A thorned path eventually brings you into a small clearing—ahead of you is a high wall, and beyond that, the broken parapets of a castle in ruins. Every inch of it is covered in climbing, thorny vines, seemingly dragging the stones down, a mass of moss and dirt. The vines alone are green: everything else is gray, even the moss. A single gate heavily heavily covered in vines guards the entrance to the castle. The entire area gives off a feeling of deep melancholy, and though it is beginning to get quite dark, and the mist hangs so heavily overhead that you cannot make out the edges of the forest or the tops of the towers, the shapes are unmistakable—this once was a grand castle.
Those familiar with it might recognize the façade of Beauty’s castle.
When you land in this area, you find yourself on the balcony of a large upscale apartment. The door inside is open, and a woman's voice calls from within.
"Come in already. The wet in the air will damage the tuning."
A large sports store is brightly lit inside. There are walls and racks of all kinds of equipment, but most of it is for A-T -- wheels, gears, motors, boots, chassis. Just about anything you could possibly need for owning or repairing a set of A-T.
The mists around this island obscure and refract the light of the sun. As you fly deeper into the white embankment, it becomes more difficult to see in front of you. Following the flickering light will eventually lead to a solid stretch of land.
You can only see about twenty feet in any direction, and the shifting of the mists make even that questionable. Occasionally they shift enough to reveal an object half formed in the mists, a street corner, a car, fluted columns. Everything here is indistinct except for a low pedestal ahead of you. The candle resting on it is familiar, but unlike the others you have seen so far, it's flame gutters drunkenly producing the flickering light which guided you this far.
