When you step through the rip, you're lost. You don't know where you are, and you don't know where the others are, and you don't know where all the parts of you are in relation to each other (is there a 'where' for them to be?) All there is here is an endless bowl of white sky, over an endless field of white, leaping fire (is there room for a 'you' here? ah--)
This only lasts a moment, and you find yourself again; perhaps shaken, but whole, and somewhere more solid.
You're in a huge castle kitchen. There's plenty of tables and every cooking utensil imaginable and a woodpile, though it doesn't seem like anyone's cooked anything here in forever; no fires are lit, and no food is in sight.
There are a pair of large doors out on one side, and a flight of stairs leading up on the opposite side. There's also a narrow passageway at the back of the kitchen – you might not notice it normally. Another attention-getting fiery tear has opened up in front of it, however: you might be able to enter that, but the passage itself is blocked off.
[does it look like a thin layer of fiery tear covering a passage, or does it go fairly deep. i.e. if he opened a Dark Corridor, could he portal past it?]
You find yourself in a field composed entirely of rusted, identical keys. They're rather generic-looking, not fancy, except that each has a pair of paper-thin metallic wings attached. Every single key's wings are broken, but they're still trying to beat, making unpleasant creaking and clashing sounds, dragging the keys over each other -- be careful not to lose your balance.
There's open sky here, but it's flickering rapidly through day to night to day again, twenty-four hours in a matter of minutes over and over, the sun and moon and stars blinking in and out. If you keep looking at it you'll feel sick, and start seeing the colours of the rip, behind your eyes and reflected on the keys.
[already starting to feel sick, urg. Sitting down in a clear spot, if there are any; he'd make sure not to sit on a key. Are the keys reacting to him in any way - coming closer, trying to flutter away, anything?]
[holding out his hand to the nearby ones] Hey, guys. You okay. Mind if I take a look? [pulling out a med kit he and Josh fetched before they got pulled in; there's bandages and splints in there]
The rip you came through has disappeared. You are standing in a round room of shining obsidian, with torches in sconces on the walls. The floor is carpeted in ash.
There's a circle of thirteen life-sized statues here, identical: young women in heavy-looking gowns with their arms outstretched. Their faces have only rudimentary features. In the middle of the circle is a statue of a rearing serpent, ten feet high. All the statues are made of rough, dull black basalt except for the serpent's fangs, which are copper.
You're in a small room made of glass with floral designs etched into the walls. There is a burning firepit in the middle, and many different sorts of animals -- every single one made of red-gold fire as well -- making noises of distress, prowling the floor restlessly. Every thirty seconds or so, another animal pops out of the fire.
It's pretty hot in here, though not unbearably so yet.
It's getting more and more crowded, for one. Some of them -- a kitten, a heron, a tiny hydra -- come up and shove their heads against you, not burning.

[Following that, what happens if he throws a spoon into the fiery tear?]

The spoon itself goes straight into the tear and disappears.

THROUGH THE PASSAGE TEAR
There's open sky here, but it's flickering rapidly through day to night to day again, twenty-four hours in a matter of minutes over and over, the sun and moon and stars blinking in and out. If you keep looking at it you'll feel sick, and start seeing the colours of the rip, behind your eyes and reflected on the keys.

Re: THROUGH THE PASSAGE TEAR
The keys near you are fluttering more excitedly than the ones that aren't, though not in any particular direction.
