Your room has various hanging scrolls, in a language that is familiar... yet you can't seem to read it. When you look at the round table in the center, there are various scrolls, and five small boxes with a small hole in the center, as well as a small collection of white marbles.

On one box, you see a SWORD, just looking at it gives you a sense of STRENGTH.

On another, you see a SHIELD, just looking at it gives you the safe feeling of great DEFENSE.

On another, you see the carvings of what looks like a gust of WIND, looking at it gives you the feeling of great SPEED.

On yet another, you see a carving of a pair of PLAYING CARDS, you find yourself feeling a little LUCKY today.

On the final box, there is a flowing RIVER, and you feel in better HEALTH.

If you count the number of marbles, there are only 50 of them. Each box looks like it can only hold 20 total marbles.

Finally, there are 2 pieces of parchment and a quill off to the side. On the first parchment, you can read:

NAME ME
AND TELL ME FROM WHENCE WHICH I CAME:
FROM FIRE
FROM WATER
FROM EARTH
FROM ICE
FROM MAGIC

On the other:
YOU MAY GIVE ME FOUR ABILITIES. THEY MAY BE ATTACKS
OF YOUR OWN MAKING. OR THEY MAY BE SPELLS THAT WILL INCREASE MY STRENGTH, OR DEFENSE.
OR SPELLS THAT WILL DECREASE THE STRENGTH OR DEFENSE OF MY OPPONENT.

Mimics in my land have high agility, hit points, and strength. You have to really hit them as fast and as hard as you can before they kill you.

Pretty much the same here, I think.

I think defense, strength, and hit points are the best. Hitting fast is valuable, but mimics are annoying 'cause they're so tough...

I'm fine with that.

So, a name, an element, and special abilities.

Maybe a magic element would protect it some from magic.

Or a magic nullifying element!

We only have the five to choose from, so magic works. What about its attacks?

Earth? It's found in caves after all...

Like a special earth attack? Or do you mean as the element-?

Oh, I see. I like the idea of magic being its element because it's strong against physical things already, so that would null the elemental bonus of a magical opponent. Right? But if not, earth works. It fits the stats well.

Let's go with 'magic' then.

As for attacks... it should 'bite', obviously.

It should also 'grab and bite'.

It should have a defense-boosting ability where it 'snaps shut', like closes its lid.

And it should have an ability that threatens the other monster to the point its defense is lowered! But how can a mimic make a sound...
