Carnelian + Peridot

Through the doors, you find yourselves in a small circular room that seems to be decorated much in the same way as the ring is decorated today. The curtains are in alternating colors of your teams, and in the center stand are three surprisingly lifelike, but faceless sculptures. They stand with their backs to one another, facing out to the chairs. About each of their necks is a cord that holds a sign written in a fine, looping cursive.

... For all three of them? I do hope you have something heavy in mind for manslaughter.

. . . and how do you think a criminal of that caliber should be punished?

You shouldn't be asking if you're not ready to take the suggestion, Peridot. Or are you afraid I'd rather let you all come up with something...?

I'm not opposed to a psychological tactic. It's Verbal that I am not keen on. Forcing the criminal to confess the crime at a larger population, in a place like Aather, might work in and of itself, but it's not appropriate.

But since it's something we have to deal ourselves, perhaps tying them up and throwing them in the water of the ring for a full night, with their eyes bandaged and no way to distinguish sound.

Then again, I guess they'd drown.

Under the circumstances, if we're speaking broadly—wouldn't that make you equally as guilty? Not of manslaughter, but of murder in the first degree.

Just because you've decided yourself above hypocrisy doesn't make it so.

I propose Beato gives a lecture to the perjurer about the importance of keeping one's word and the potential dangers of breaking it. I have faith in her creativity and passion in this regard. Carnelian, If you'd like something hands-on, shoplifting may have one item of theirs confiscated—perhaps by you? . . . to emphasize the value that we place in material goods; and to that effect, Ventus may iterate the importance of respecting others and not jeopardizing your own self-respect.

. . . as for manslaughter, I really do feel nothing we're qualified to mete out can even come close to being anything more than a laughable display. Either we act with vengeance and hypocrisy, or we act with arbitrary inadequacy.

I don't know how much I'll be able to get my yelly on when I don't know the motives, but I'm okay with trying.

You don't need to yell. I think it would be just as powerful to seriously question why they would do such a thing. Perhaps look really sad while you do it.

I think I can manage that much, yeah.

Don't make it sound like I'm dying for some action. If you think I'm having fun, you're mistaken.

I don't object to the punishment you chose for shoplifting and perjury, but I'd much rather coming up with something laughable for manslaughter than nothing at all.

Beatrice has a suggestion.

I'll leave it to the rest of you to decide on the particulars, perhaps.

Acting too drastically in regards to the charge of manslaughter will likely only cause enmity towards us... Perhaps a Scarlet Letter of sorts?

...It doesn't have to be too specific. Manslaughter isn't quite on par with murder, but burden must still be taken.

Re: Discussion

[personal profile] boxupallthebutterflies 2012-09-30 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
A public display of their crime. It wouldn't be anything more than some sort of note attached to them letting everyone know that they had committed it.
unionoftheheart: (thinking)

[considering that, then nods]

I think I'd be okay with that, yeah. It's a little revealing, but...if somebody had serious reasons for what they did, like me, we can hope it's something that they've already come to terms with and are okay explaining if they're asked.
boxupallthebutterflies: (with my net and my bait)

Yes... It would be up to them and the mercy of the public what happens with the revelation.
