Ruby + Sapphire

Through the doors, you find yourselves in a small circular room that seems to be decorated much in the same way as the ring is decorated today. The curtains are in alternating colors of your teams, and in the center stand are three surprisingly lifelike, but faceless sculptures. They stand with their backs to one another, facing out to the chairs. About each of their necks is a cord that holds a sign written in a fine, looping cursive.

I meant severe in the sense that she would force us to lay hands on another.

Have you ever tried playing a game where you didn't know the rules? That's how I got started, and it's pretty scary.

On top of that, I'd be betting them chores to begin with.

A reason to get nervous, maybe. Regardless, you're offering a game and a bet as punishment to a Personae that cares very much about things being done properly. If that angers her, we may be punished for it.

[...quietly:] And I don't want Ruby to get hurt again.

[... raising an eyebrow]

There's a good chance that after this round, we're going to have to enact those punishments on real people. It might even be Ruby or Sapphire who's involved. In that case, the punishment needs to be something that won't hurt people but would still involve action, right? I can make a game end pretty fast if it's cards.

I don't want anyone to get hurt, Selenia. Given what might happen next, I want to keep what we can do under control as much as possible.

What else could we do?

Have a second plan. Just in case.

...A slap on the wrist. That would be the extent of what I'd be comfortable with.

That and playing cards, betting for chores. That way we cover all bases.

We're an unforgiving team.

It's because we had to teach Sapphire not to beg for table scraps.

All of our patience has been exhausted.

[putting a hand to his heart]
