You find yourself in a beautiful red room, the edges of each wall adorned with real gold accents. At the center of the room is a long table, several chairs on either side of it, perfect for very serious conferences. In the middle of the table is a plate of strawberry jam tarts atop it, one per teammate present.

In the corner of the room is a hole in the ground, only large enough for a small animal to fit through. Next to it is a flat iron bar, curled at its tip, where a golden bell has been hung from it.

Finally, on one wall is a large poster which reads (or you find read aloud to you, if you cannot read):

Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water.
Jack fell down and broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after.

Up got Jack, and home did trot
As fast as he could caper.
He went to bed and bound his head
With vinegar and brown paper.

On the table you find a paper, though it most certainly wasn't there before. It reads, or is read to you:

DEFENDANT: Jack
DETAILS: First and foremost, Jack did not return with the pail of water he and his sister, Jill, were entrusted to get. However, Jack led his sister away from the well to an out-of-the-way cliff, suggesting that their detour was premeditated. And though Jack suffered grievous injuries to his head, he intentionally neglected the state of his sister, who had also been hurt in her fall, leaving her behind and proceeding home to treat himself and him alone.
PROPOSED SENTENCE: Execution

...Certainly some punishment is required, but permanent execution may be a little dire.

It's not the right answer. We have to change it.

Perhaps someone should lead him on his own "accidental detour". ...With non-fatal results.

What?

Perhaps someone should strand him in the woods somewhere and take a while to come back and fetch him.

He's hurt. That's not good enough? And it doesn't say his sister died.

By the rules of the game, we must punish him somehow. Is it all right as long as she didn't die?

No, it's not all right, but he hit his head, right? That means maybe he didn't know what he was doing.

Are crimes committed in ignorance also acceptable?

No, never. But they're not the same as ones that were meant, so they shouldn't all be thought of the same way.

He certainly did neglect his own sister.

More than neglect, he brought her somewhere dangerous deliberately. I bet she was wearing heels.

Yes. Such a shame he had to neglect his own sister-- not only that, he obviously had malicious intent, insuring that his sister would be mauled.

He has committed a wrongdoing, whatever the scale. What punishment are you inclined to suggest...?

Well, we can't actually prove his intent without questioning him...but from the rhyme, we do know that he left his sister behind. If she was presumably suffering from the same injuries as he, then he might have left her to die.

Is pushing him down another hill allowed?

We would have to ensure that falling down the hill would be non-fatal, which is complicated when he already has a head injury. I suggested abandoning him for a bit himself, but Ariel is not taking well to the suggestion...

True. But he did leave his sister behind, which is at least cause for a punishment of some sort.

He hit his head. Maybe he couldn't think and was confused!
