Yes, I think that works well. In the end, the benefits of the different paths that they've followed allow them to better support one another.

An isolated village would be at risk from the dangers of the surrounding environment. It would naturally require protection.

Mm, since it's the end, it wouldn't make sense for the village to be attacked in order for them to band together to protect it. That should happen in the middle.
