ROUND 2 - EMERALD

[ The room is different this time -- larger. In the middle is a table with enough chairs for everyone. A platter of cheese and fruit sits there as well. You can hear Three's voice, but not see her. ]

Rank the remaining nine teams in terms of value. You may place your own team as high or low as you wish.

[ Also on the table is a colored tile for every team but Ruby and a small rectangular container with slots numbered one through nine. ]

Good question. I'm closer to you guys than I am all of Coral, so maybe I'd put Emerald first. And I know that Knife has someone she's close to on Sapphire...

I don't really know anyone on Sapphire but I ...can respect that, of course.

Maybe a better question to start with would be which teams we don't have friends on.

I'm a bit antisocial, honestly. Though I'd suggest we avoid putting Peridot low as they were obviously hit last time harder than most due to Ruby's defense split, given that they were pretty angry in the break.

Right, so we've got Coral, Sapphire, Peridot, and... Turquoise and Amethyst are teams I think Ginger and maybe Knife know people on...?

...Citrine for me too. I don't remember him from my past, but one of the members remembers me and has been very helpful in... helping me understand my memories. And he... helped me after the game I died in. I'm also friends with Blaze on Citrine.

So Tiger's Eye and Kunzite are the only teams we haven't mentioned. This isn't going to work.

Well, we do need to figure out a rough order. If we know who's important, we can start to rank among those. Even eliminating a few people helps.

Tch, you're probably right, but...

We can't do it. We've been through the hell end of these games before. We know what it's like. I can't in good conscience do that to someone else to save our skins.

... I'm fucking tired of this game.

I know. My everything hurts. I want to go to sleep.

But we've gotta do it. You and Touchy need Coral, I need Sapphire. Those two teams are also where Faith and Fetch are, if I remember rightly, so I'm not going to press too hard for anything else. But I'm fond of Turquoise too.

Let's put Coral and Sapphire first and second, just because of numbers, unless anyone objects.

Right. Any other teams you feel strongly about?

... maybe the best way to do this is some completely arbitrary, stupid idea ...

....... whoever we rank last is going to die. Whoever we pick, that's ... what we have to remember.

We should rank ourselves last.

And the rest of the teams - it shouldn't matter, okay? Let's do it alphabetically, if we have to - anything that takes any sort of decision based on anyone we like least out of the process.

... I don't want to look someone in the eye and have to tell them I got them killed because "I'm sorry, but I liked you a little less".

Neither do I, but I'm not going to give up a chance to protect the people that are important to us. I'm fine with putting us last, if it makes the decision-making process easier.

... I'll ... this isn't an easy decision. I just think - I'm just tossing out ideas.

I know. We're weighing our options.

On the other hand, do we want to look our friends in the eye and say "I'm sorry, I got you killed 'cause we did it alphabetically"?

... I don't - I don't know.

I want to protect those people we value, but I'm fine putting ourselves last. We do value ourselves high, but if we're ignoring the literal value, I don't want to live while other people die because we picked them as less important than we are. It's possible we can't save them, but if we do what we can and take what control we can is good.
