Through the door, you find yourself in a room decorated entirely in white. The floor is made up of smooth marble tiles. The walls are covered in an elaborate floral wallpaper in white and pale grays. To your left is an enormous ivory wardrobe. Opposite it is a white wrought iron table with several chairs around it. There are five cards spread across the table.
♕ Role Cards ♕
"I hope by now you understand the importance of the roles that you must play, but if it hasn't sunk in yet do try to keep up. It seems that some of my children just aren't cut out for everything their dear Mother would like to give them. I do hope that you're at least smart enough to know which role suits you best."
There are fountain pens set out on the table and a blank space at the bottom of each card for your name.
♕ Roles ♕
A pawn is the foot soldier of the King. Willingly they sacrifice themselves to do his bidding. Each of the King's commands is obeyed without question. A good pawn knows their place, that every action a pawn could take is still insignificant when compared to the glory and honor earned by the King's knights. Yet still a pawn works hard, diligently, to accomplish the tasks too vulgar for a knight's hands.
On the board, a pawn may only move forward one square unless it is attacking, when it may move diagonally. On the first move, a pawn may move forward two squares to show its devotion and enthusiasm for the King.
A King is nothing without a castle. She is the berth that houses him, provides him shelter, and protects him from his enemies. A castle's walls are stalwart and true. She weathers great storms and sieges. Yet not all of a castle's duty lies in war. She is also host to pagentries and balls, the King's great feasts. All of these burdens must rest upon her shoulders.
On the board, a castle may move forward, backwards, right, or left for as many spaces as she desires. However, she may only move in a straight line on a given turn.
A knight is the King's defender. Knights charge into battle to do the King's justice and bring honor to the King's name by the feats of glory that they accomplish in the King's name. A knight knows well the code of chivalry, a knight is kind and courteous to all ladies of the King's court and respects the delicacies of courtly life. However, knights must not shy from the tasks that are set before them, for it is a Knight's duty to win victory in the King's name.
On the board, a knight may move forward two spaces in any direction and then one space to its right or left. Mounted atop a noble steed, a knight may move over any others who stand as obstacles in its way.
A bishop is the keeper of the King's faith. When a King requires counsel on matters of faith and morality, it is the Bishop's wisdom that he consults. Bishops must speak on the authority of a higher power with all the wisdom that the church's vast education has bestowed upon them. Yet a bishop must also remember that though the devotion of one of the faith lies elsewhere even servants of the church are the King's subjects as much as any other servant, and it is the King's laws they must obey.
On the board, a bishop may move diagonally in any direction it desires.
The King is the ruler of the realm. He is courageous, noble, and just. The King's laws provide peace for the people of the realm. The king's armies defend them from their enemies and it is by the King's decree that there are revelries to bring light and joy into their lives. The King is renown and beloved by all his subjects.
On the board, a King may move one space in any direction. Yet if the threat of capture looms for the King, he has no choice but to retreat to a safer space.
