[FIREBIRD EXPLORE - 9 AM]

You find yourself in a small triangular room with high, high walls. All three walls are made of glass. Through one, all you see is white light moving in strange angular patterns. Through the second, the same white light forms great starbursts. Through the third, the light coils and wheels.

It's quite bright. The floor is made of ruddy beaten copper. The ceiling is a vast mirror. In the middle of the floor is a great copper bowl filled with something white and wavering, like smoke.

You find three copper tokens in your hand. They are flat, shaped like apples. Engraved on each is the word OPEN.

The mural vanishes. In its place is whatever it depicted, solid and real.

. . . so. Yes.

[THIS IS AWESOME!!]

You find yourself back in the central room.

In your hand is a copper key.

[right then. Heading for the flowering tree door and entering.]

You’re in a thick forest, faint mist drifting lazily around your feet. It’s a little chilly, a little damp, but not uncomfortable. Birds chirp and insects buzz lazily all around you, unconcerned by your presence. What little you can see of the sky is pale and cloudless.

A faint trail winds into the trees to your right.

[wandering down the trail!]

It's peaceful.

ou find a very large clearing. Thirteen pedestals of some dark stone ring it; they must have had statues on them once, but these have been cleanly broken away, and only the (human? hopefully?) feet are left on each one. Who knows where the rest of each statue is.

In the center of the clearing is the lone intact statue: a huge dark serpent about thirteen feet high, mouth wide open. It's exquisitely carved, but its four fangs are missing, so it looks pretty goofy right now.

A red fox is seated on the other side of the clearing, eyeing you. It's carrying a lump of raw meat in its mouth.

[. . . cracking up at the snake, before looking at the fox. Approaching it slowly, and crouching down.]

What've you got there?

It shuffles back a step, ears pricking.

[holds out a hand to it ... ?]

Headtilt. Whine?

[hmmm. makes the universally accepted hand gesture for "I will pet you if you come over here".]

How come you haven't eaten that?

It paces back and forth uncertainly, but doesn't back off anymore.

[reeeaaaachessss over to pet the fox, keeping her hand flat and non-aggressive and moving veeeery sloooowly.]

It steps just out of reach, but it looks...interested.

[. . . just holds her palm out flat toward the fox, then, keeping it still.

gosh it's too bad MITHOS, DISNEY PRINCESS isn't here right now.]

. . . it drops the lump of meat in your hand and bolts into the woods.

[. . . oh!]

Bye, then! [examining the meat! THEN I GUESS I WILL GO LOOK AROUND FOR THE SNAKE'S TEETH.]

It's a heavy lump of meat the size of a man's fist.

Where are you looking?

[mostly around the pedestals, a bit into the trees if there's no joy there.]

You find four long copper fangs scattered in the grass behind the pedestals.

[picking up the fangs ... and tucking them into her bra for a minute. CURSE YOU, LACK OF POCKETS.

is there any sign of the broken statues around here, too? if so, could they be put back in place?]

You see no sign of the broken statues.

[goes to put the teeth back in the snake's mouth, then.]

They fit back into place. Now it looks a lot more dignified.

There's a faint click somewhere under your feet, but that's all that happens.
