KNIGHTS

[ You stand with your fellow knights at the bottom of the valley you saw above. The structures of an ordinary little village rise around you: a market square, an inn, small houses, stables--but they all seem paper-thin, and if you attempt to touch them, your fingers pass right through.

A heavy mist surrounds you, blocking your view of the cliffs you came from. ]

You are in a poor town that has fallen on difficult times with the coming of the Darkness to this world, and everyone has to work hard to survive.

Who are you in this village? Why do you keep fighting to survive?

[ Choose a simple role for yourself--e.g. the Keeper of Secrets or the Traveler--and explain in a few words what motivates you to keep going in this scenario. It can be as honest or as fanciful as you prefer. Submit your answers individually. ]

[ The mist darkens and rolls heavily across the town around you. Deep shadows flicker in every corner. ]

You have been betrayed to the Darkness by someone you trusted. Your guardian angels are now deciding which of you they will save.

1. The guardian angel "Sunflower Phoenix" is a giant 1,000-ft tall floor lamp that hangs over the village. Despite its size, it is lightweight and cannot actually crush people if it falls over. In fact, it can even fly because angels can fly. It gains power from friendship, love, warmth and hugs. ALL POSITIVE FEELINGS. The more feelings it gets, the stronger it becomes. With enough power, it eventually turns into a sun that can shoot out rainbows at the Darkness. Despite its kickass abilities and personality, it is also gentle and as friendly as a guardian angel would be.
2. The guardian angel "Fluffy" is a fairly large flying, robo-cat that also happens to carry around a pouch of 5yen pieces. It's able to shoot lazer beams as well as money at the Darkness in order to fight it back. Fluffy protects those it calls friends (and sometimes not friends if they're not trash) and enjoys being cuddled by others and its greatest power will come from intense cuddling.
3. The guardian angel "The Light of Hope" is a torch in its true form, though among its powers is the ability to give itself a humanoid form, seemingly always carrying a torch. While in the humanoid form of a catgirl, it possesses the ability to interact with the world and communicate with people as a normal human would, as well as the ability to sing and inspire them to new heights. However, the Light of Hope's true power reveals itself when being held by a chosen mortal, imbuing the people gathered around her with a magical boost that strengthens the mind of people, makes them recall happy times, fills them with motivation to protect the people around them, and strengthens their bodies, that they may be protected from the assaults from the Darkness and fend it off with their own hands and wills.

Yeah, we know how this one goes, right? We yap about not giving into the Darkness in order to past the test. Or something like that.

Huh. Since it's a poor town, I suppose knights would be out of place.

But people still need ta be helped and protected, right?

Most are, save for hedge knights. They are most often in service to a lord and own their own lands.

You think? We're fighting or defending against the Darkness, same as usual, right?

I doubt you'd find many knights taking shelter in a poor village for longer than a night. It's not impossible, though.

Sure, the theme's familiar. But we're not with teams.

You know a lot more on the topic than me. I just think of shining armor and horses.

Well, I think whatever occupation we have, helpin' folks is the number one priority! We fight so other folks survive! Ain't that right?

Shouldn't that make it simpler? We decide our roles for ourselves this time. And the ultimate answer is still pretty clear.

We each have to pick our own role though. I wondered why they let us be grouped as knights, but we're still operating solo on some level.

We can't all be Hopeman the Friendshipper.

Well, that's certainly part of it. Young men who wish to be knights are trained to ride and fight from the time that they're young.
