It's dark. Everything around you is pure blackness, thick enough that you can't even see your hand in front of you. It's quiet and empty, and nothing but the warmth of your own body and the sensation of your own breathing can even assure you that you're indeed standing here—

Then suddenly, you're jolted by an electric current—brief, but no less searing and painful for it—and light begins to flood your vision, as if you've finally woken up.

THE TESTING GATE

You find yourself at the end of an uphill path, standing before an intricately embellished, massive gate, towering well over a hundred feet. The wall of the gate goes as far as you can see in either direction. The entrance is made up of seven stone doors, each set embedded within the other. These doors are clearly heavy, with even the smallest set of doors looking like it must weigh at least a ton. Not too far from this main entrance, there's what looks like a small guard post of some kind.

The path you're standing on continues downhill behind you, though you can't see where it leads, and the area on either side of you tapers off into a forest.

There's nothing remarkable about the inside, but it looks like there's someone inside, and the door is open.

A gate like that is normally operated by levers and mechanisms from a distance.

Ah, and...this rude young man isn't very welcoming to acquaintances, so I doubt a simple knock will suffice inside his head.

There's no handle on any of them, nor does there even seem to be a lock. It looks like if you want them to open, you just have to push... Of course, there's the slight complication of just how heavy they look.
