RUBY vs. STERLING

An immense tree towers above you; it looks as if it might be a fruit tree of some kind, but there's no fruit on it at the moment. Instead, a clear path winds through its huge sturdy branches, slowly leading up to the top of the tree. Along that path are strewn helpful ladders making shortcuts up the branches--as well as enormous black snakes, their tails leading down.

Two silver dice rest on a small pedestal at the bottom of the tree. You get the feeling that you'll need these to move forwards and up the tree.

1. Every turn, someone on each team rolls a six-sided die and posts the results in order for the team to proceed a number of steps along the path up the tree.
2. If you land at the bottom of a ladder, you'll take a shortcut up the tree.
3. If you land at the head of a snake, you'll be sent a ways back down the tree.
4. The winner is the first one to reach the final square, or the one who's made the most progress at the end of the game.
5. Try to have both teams roll to advance once every fifteen minutes. Other than that, thread reactions with each other and the other team as you wish.

You advance three steps along the branches. You pass by the tail of a snake. You stop at the bottom of a ladder, but before long you are drawn to climb the ladder...

As you ascend the first ladder, you feel innocent. You think of all the times here in Aather and elsewhere that you've turned away from even the smallest of bad deeds and steered clear of sin.

You are now on the sixteenth step of the path. You are at the top of a ladder.

[Rolls a four!]

You advance four steps along the branches. You pass by the tail of a snake. You pass by the bottom of a ladder.

You are now on the fourth step of the path. You are at the tail of a snake.

[tips his head back to look up]

Damn, we're already behind. Well, this is just luck. It's no big deal.

[GUESS WHO'S ROLLING.]

Another four, how curious.

You are now on the twentieth step of the path. You are at the top of a ladder.

This is a really weird kind of game...

No kidding. This sort of thing's meant to be played with little pieces on a board, not actually--

[grabs the next branch, pulls himself up]

--climbing some kind of tree. Need a boost?

Y-Yeah, that'd be great, I'm not... good with heights.

[helping her up, but frowning a little up towards the higher branches]

Maybe we won't get too high, anyway.

[Aaand Sterling will roll a 3 next]

[holding out a hand to help her up to the next branch as well]

Yeah. Look at Ruby, they're already twice as far as we are.

[waving down at Sterling.]

[makes a rude gesture up at him]

[points at Loki and John with his left hand, then points at the final remaining snake between them and the finish point, then holds up his right hand, with fingers crossed]

You are now on the thirtieth step of the path.

[GUESS WHO'S GOING TO RUIN THIS—rolls a 2]

You advance two steps along the path. You stop by the head of a giant snake. It rears up and hisses fiercely at you, then lunges forward to grab you and toss you lightly down its back...

As you slide down the body of the fifth snake, you feel sinful. You think of all the times here in Aather and elsewhere that you've committed some evil, however small, or turned away from the path of virtue.

Well, maybe not all of them. It doesn't actually last long enough for that.

You are now on the twenty-second step of the path. You are at the tail of a snake.

[maybe it's time to sit here and wallow]

[he looks kind of shocked and then sort of violated, here.]
