RULER: Sapphire | EX-CONSORT: Turquoise -- NEW CONSORT: Carnelian

"As a ruler, I have many responsibilities, and one that I am -- at least, to the best of my knowledge -- relatively known for is my willingness to hear people's cases and provide some form of legal ruling on them. It has always been important to me to be fair, merciful, and kind. Of course, I need not do this all by myself.

In this game, I will present to you some suits and ask you to discuss between yourself and the team you are partnered with to rule on their situations and their requests."

Guinevere finishes speaking, and you find yourself in a tent with one other team.

RULER: SAPPHIRE
CONSORT: TURQUOISE

((OOC: For various reasons, I need to move along the teams reeeeelatively at the same pace at various points, so there may be occasional delays for some teams. I apologize in advance if this happens!))

She's already married, you can't really get married twice. Her circumstances are weird, but I don't know, what if the guy comes back alive and she's married to some second guy?

I think the idea is to give us a sense of what it means to be a ruler? It doesn't sound that hard.

He's the one who isn't writing back to her. If everyone else is, then obviously he could if he was alive.

So I guess it's pretty fair to let the lady do whatever she wants. Why does she need our permission?

It seems presumptuous of us to be the ones deciding when we don't know the laws and customs of the land, and are not in fact the rulers of the kingdom this couple is from.

It's an exercise in handling legal matters. Though at least one part of this seems rather...personal.

It's possible he's in a situation where writing back isn't an option. He may have been taken by the enemy, or found himself far enough behind enemy lines that he can't send a message through. There are many reasons for why he hasn't responded.

Exactly. It's a matter that ought to be handles by someone who understands the specific situation and understands the laws of this land to begin with.

I get it, but we have to choose something or the game won't advance so we have to use our best judgment.

In this hypothetical situation we are the ones who set the laws, so it's likely she's asking us what we believe those laws should be.

However, you are right that it's difficult to say without more information. Why is she looking to marry a male acquaintance, and what did the marriage contract fully entail? And why did they sign it without taking this situation into account?

[personal profile] metaphysicality 2014-03-08 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but they were talking about money in the situation too so she might just really need the money to keep living on.

...That's not exactly a bad idea, but sending her into the danger isn't likely the best solution.

If his commanding officers can't provide her with an answer, then they should be the ones responsible for finding out what happened. If one of their men went missing, then surely they've at least recorded that information. And yet it says she's heard no information at all, implying that they haven't even done that.
