You find yourself in a musty rectangular room floored with tatami. The room is not large, but luckily fits your team without seeming too claustrophobic. It seems to have been set up as a sort of study. There is a low desk against one wall, covered in stacks of paper cards and writing utensils. Near the desk are, of course, cushions for everyone to sit on. A circular latticed window is set into the wall perpendicular to the desk. Bright moonlight filters through, enough to provide illumination for your task. If you look through the window, you can just barely make out the shapes of a shadowy garden beyond and below… you must be at least on the second floor.

The other end of the room is dominated by a large apothecary's chest. There are many, many drawers, but none of them open save for the fourteen in the middle that have been painted with team colors. A hand-lettered sign has been placed on top of the chest: "Please turn in your stories here."

A lonely, wet and dark cave, the only home they've been able to find in a dangerous post-apocalyptic world. So, how did they get there? What's their backstory.

They got exiled to a cave by people who they thought were their friends. And then, everyone else died, but they didn't cause... uh, the cave was underground? There was some kind of moss?

They survived the Darkness with a clever disguise of shadows. It's still looking for them and any other survivors, but it wouldn't think to look somewhere already shrouded in darkness.

They have been waiting for the perfect chance to have their revenge on the darkness. But after being burned once, they couldn't trust anyone but themselves so they stayed in the cave alone.

So: When the darkness started to come, they tried to rally their friends to get revenge, but the friends didn't trust them and exiled them. They fled the oncoming darkness into a cave, where the Shadow Moss shrouded them and made the darkness pass them by. But they can't risk leaving the cave, and don't have anyone to return for anyway.

What do they do every day and how does it make them feel?

To pass the time, they sing a song. It's a song that reminds them of the life they once had, but it is a painful reminder.

They feel more and more hopeless every day and try to stave it off by singing to themselves, but the song only reminds them of what they once had, and makes them feel more lonely.

The darkness visiting them wearing their brother's face would make it worse. For their brother to actually make it to the cave would be better.

I came into a pretty interesting story! Ah, wouldn't it be interesting if the protagonist thought that it is all or nothing? So either he gets what he wants, or gets taken by the darkness too.

Hm, so to get better:

Their brother would manage to come find them, anyone he could trust could come join him, and he could destroy the darkness.

To get worse:

The darkness could pretend to be their brother, they could get sick and lose their voice, or he could get taken by the darkness as well.

I like it. I agree with Cal, it's all or nothing.

Now, there's five of us, so let's each pick a team for 3 teams whose lives you want to improve, 1 team that has a good idea for this game, and 1 team to take sadness from. I definitely want to tease Citrine by improving their character's life!
