The Amethyst family were timekeepers. They were responsible for watching over time. It was a tiresome job however. "Oh, I wish we could just give it away to someone else," they would often say. Because really. Sitting around and staring at clocks all day? Boring as dirt. They were chained to their clocks!
One day, they noticed something strange. The clocks had stopped moving. No, actually . . . they were moving backwards. The hands were practically spinning out of control, and they weren't sure what to do. And suddenly they stopped moving. And they knew something signficant happened.
They had lost time.
They were frantic, afraid of the chaos they might have just made. "What will we do? Is it our fault?" But if only they would realized that they never really lost "time". In fact, their wish had finally come true. Time was given to a young girl who had hers stolen away from her and so she was able to continue on living for just a little while longer. No chaos happened either! Things went on smoothly as if nothing ever happened. Amethyst also managed to avoid high blood pressure problems.
They never realized the good that they've done, but it was good nonetheless.
And the moral of the story is that sometimes selfish desires helps other people too.
